Qual-Scan acquired by Pulmac
The QualScan® II, one of the key technologies developed by Earl McCarthy for analyzing fibers within the manufacturing processes for MDF and hardboard as well as for pulp and paper, has been sold to Pulmac of Montreal.

Mr. McCarthy continues his active involvement in the wood products field as president of McCarthy Products Co., Seattle, Washington, USA. His career in wood products technology covers over 60 years. He will assist in integrating the QualScan into Pulmac’s lineup of equipment in the area of fiber testing and other key sectors.

Pulmac Pres. & CEO W. Brent Cowan will head up a technical sales, service and product team at the Montreal head office. The addition of QualScan II complements his firm’s Shive Analyzer line for pulp, paper and panelboard applications.

Pulmac now has full rights for manufacturing, programming support, trademark and website, all of which are being transferred to Montreal. Key personnel Lloyd Moore of Cyberdata Corp., the QualScan programmer, and Jason Rota of Rota PMC, which manufactures the QualScan, are continuing with Pulmac. “This ensures that continuity in all aspects of QualScan will be provided,” McCarthy stated.
