Full sunlight scanning
JoeScan has introduced a scanner capable of operating accurately in full sunlight. Designed for use in log yards during sorting and bucking operations, the JS-20 MX100 Outdoor Edition scanner will provide accurate scans operating in light levels at least as strong as 100,000 lux (lux is the measure of illuminance; 100,000 lux represents the maximum luminance of sunlight on a sunny day). JoeScan was able to develop the technology by combining ultra-high speed digital imaging with lasers that are significantly more powerful than those used in most optimization scanners.

Most scanners designed for sawmill optimization work inside the mill itself where light levels are generally about 1/100th those in sunlight. The JS-20 MX100 Outdoor Edition allows sawmills to add scanning capability in the log yard within the current footprint and without a building to house the scanning equipment.

Like all JoeScan products, the JS-20 MX100 requires only 24V DC power and an Ethernet connection. The use of standard Ethernet cables means installation is typically easier than with other types of scanning equipment and there is no need for air-conditioned racks of custom computers and interface electronics. Compared to other scanners, JoeScan’s diagnostic and calibration tools are superior and more intuitive, making the scanners easier to operate and trouble shoot.
